BOOKS OR FILMS? Which ones do you prefer?

AN ESSAY, by Olga Casero, 4ºB

When was the last time you watched a film after reading the book? Most people don't know, but before the movie there is a fantastic story you haven't read and it is usually better than the movie because it explains more details and the whole story of the main characters.

One of the most important things about reading is that it improves your vocabulary in a huge way and it makes you think about the physical appearance of the characters, where the story takes place and how it will finish.

On the other hand, reading takes a lot of time, so this is why some people prefer to wait and see the film, but this doesn't mean they don't like reading. It is just that they don't have enough time.

All things considered, reading is a very enjoyable activity, full of feelings and emotions that everyone should experience. There is a big world of possibilities where you can find your ideal book.

OUR MULTICULTURAL TEACHER ASSISTANTS

Eva Núñez and Iván Barranco have interviewed the Auxiliary Teachers who have come to work with us. Here are some excerpts from the interview:

ERIN REYNOLDS (first one from the left) is 21 years old, she is from Glasgow, Scotland, and she is stuying Spanish and French. She likes teaching little kids and she has come with an Erasmus+ programme as well. She stays with us until May. She has studied at Strathelyde University and she wants to teach in Scotland. She really enjoys Spain and its schools.

DALMA  (second from the left) is 24 years old, she has come with an Erasmus+ scholarship. She studied at Bratislava University Education and English. She says that she loved practice but the theory was very boring and that she likes a lot working with people. She finishes her practice in December and she is going back to Bratislava to impart classes there. Before taking the English career, she wanted to be a translator, and some years ago she took a Spanish course in Salamanca for 3 weeks.

DANIELA (third one from the left) is 25 years old and she has come under the Erasmus+ programme. She studied English and Education, she met Dalma at the University. She is more likely to teach teenagers. At University she liked it, but she missed doing practical classes. When she leaves Spain, she would like to teach in Bratislava, and this is her first real teaching experience. She feels our High School is like a little family.

CHARLIE AND THE CHOCOLATE FACTORY

Another joint lesson in the ENGLISH DEPARTMENT , this time with the Spanish language and Art departments who have been working on the story CHARLIE AND THE CHOCOLATE FACTORY.
The children in 1st ESO read the book in Spanish with their Spanish language teachers, then they created their own picture of their favourite characters and the chocolate factory.

We learned the Oompa Loompas songs in  English  and finally we danced the coreography of one the songs in class.  Here are some pictures of The choco-party , and the video of the dance

PILATES LESSON: JOINT ACTIVITY WITH PHYSICAL EDUCATION

4ºESO lesson on PILATES: We do not only do English exercises but we DO also EXERCISE....

The name Pilates which sounds  now quite familiar to everyone was not very popular a few years ago. We learned in the English class about the fascinating story of Joseph Pilates and his INVENTIONS, then Ivan Lombardo from Pilates Dynamics introduced us to the method with a practical lesson. Here’s a brief look at its history and some images of our session .

ESSAYS IN 3ºB - FREEDOM AND HAPPINESS

In my opinion, freedom is a part of our life. Formerly, when my parents and grandparents were children there wasn't so much freedom as now, so we must not abuse it.
Greater freedom is not always better, you have to use freedom responsibly. If you have freedom, it does not mean you can take away the freedom of somebody else. Today you are free to express your opinion, for example, in a strike.

Greater freedom does not necessarily lead to greater happiness, we all need rules and duties. Freedom is good, but not too much. From childhood we have been taught what it is right and what it is wrong, but we are free to choose what to do. In conclusion, freedom is good if you use it properly.

To have greater freedom is not to do what we want, when we want and how we want it. Freedom is the ability  people have to determine their own actions but respecting others. Freedom may be enjoyed, not abused.

Firstly, people choose what they want to do in their life, or they just try, or if they can't they have to accept it. However, it is necessary to control freedom and always look at the positive side. So, it is necessary to use freedom to be happy in your own life and to respect  others and not to be a materialist with your possessions. You must value what you have...

Secondly, a variety of lifestyles have appeared, this is the result of how parents bring up their children and how teachers educate them. So, these children have a lack of discipline and society is becoming wilder.

All in all, greater freedom does not mean happiness for everyone. It is only an ability which responsible people know how to use.

A CHARITY, by Sabrina Del Rosal

A MUFFIN, A smile

My idea is to sell muffins in a stall in a public place or big surface such as... for about 2€ a piece. This money will be for CARITAS.

I'm going to make different muffins. They will be sold for different prices, so people will have different choices. It means that they will decide how much they want to donate.

I'm going to talk with the ... (shopping centre) to ask them if I can have a stand there. I hope they will.

When people pass by my stand, I'm going to inform them about the charity event. I'm going to have brochures will the information and many advertising posters.

For the posters, I have asked DAVID MUÑOZ, one of the best Spanish chefs, to lend his image for my posters. He is eager to colaborate in the event.

I'm going to make advertising so in the inauguration day, I expect a lot of people will come. The event will run for two months starting from 15:00 to 21:00.

I think that it is a good idea because the majority of people like muffins and if it's to help poor people, I think that they will buy them with more enthusiasm. I have decided to donate the money to Caritas since I believe that they really help the people in need.

Please if you want to help people who really need it, don't wait and come to colaborate with us.

A CHARITY: Project for ENGLISH 4ºESO

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

The end of the year for the English department was very busy. We had an activity for most of  the groups. We wanted to say good-bye to the year having fun and still have an enjoyable lesson.

For 4th ESO we learnt about Bollywood  dancing as a way of showing how happy you are raising our arms and waving them around. Space out ! Space out ! Sonia Tharani a very experienced Bollywood teacher who directed the first Bollywood flashmob in Málaga managed to make everyone jump to their feet in a happy coreography within an hour.

2nd ESO went to the cinema to see Star Wars in V.O. with Spanish subtitles.And finally 1st ESO showed their abilities in the Talent show celebrated in the school Gym. A professional photographer in our English class

Lorenzo Hernandez, a Spanish photographer from Tenerife who  has travelled the world and worked in Barcelona, New York, London Paris and Milan came to our English class in 4ºESO to share with our students  his 40 year old cosmopolitan and daring experience . Lorenzo has recently published  his new project on Spanish artists in London. We learnt about something about the story behind his pictures


" I disregard fashions and trends and try to be faithful to my own style... I feel confident about what I want to capture with my camera. If you have a look at this website, you'll realize that creative freedom is paramount for me: in fashion, the idea behind the photo is what leads the viewer to appreciate the clothes; in portrait my goal is to reveal the model's hidden character and personality. And, in general, this creativity and style underlie the rest of my work: still life, landscape, or any other subject that catches my attention."

Our students had the opportunity to become models, assistants  and photographers with the expert advice. The following  pictures speak by themselves .

INTEGRATED UNIT: YOU ARE WHAT YOU EAT...

WORKING TOGETHER IN SCIENCE AND ENGLISH, we try to enhance and consolidate what in the Science class is learnt about NUTRITION by bringing people to give a first hand experience of the topic. In this ocassion we have had a pediatrian, and nutritionist, María Rodríguez, who came to give a talk about the importance of eating well, of having a varied diet and of reading carefully the ingredients of the packaged food you buy in order to make a good selection. MOST IMPORTANT OF ALL: pay attention to fats, sugar and salt contained in most of the industrial or packaged food we buy.

Then the students chose what to work on related to nutrition and they finally made a video about their research .
