INTEGRATED UNIT: YOU ARE WHAT YOU EAT...

WORKING TOGETHER IN SCIENCE AND ENGLISH, we try to enhance and consolidate what in the Science class is learnt about NUTRITION by bringing people to give a first hand experience of the topic. In this ocassion we have had a pediatrian, and nutritionist, María Rodríguez, who came to give a talk about the importance of eating well, of having a varied diet and of reading carefully the ingredients of the packaged food you buy in order to make a good selection. MOST IMPORTANT OF ALL: pay attention to fats, sugar and salt contained in most of the industrial or packaged food we buy.

Then the students chose what to work on related to nutrition and they finally made a video about their research .

ERASMUS+ LEARNING SCIENCE IN A PRACTICAL WAY

Our team of intrepid travellers are in Hungary this week to meet our partners, both Finnish and Hungarians, in the first of several encounters we will hold to discuss and put in practice the project we are carrying out together: how to improve the teaching and learning efficacy in Science. As part of the programme of this week, there has been a series of practices at the University of Szeged to have a real "hands-on" experience of science. Here are some images:

INTEGRATED UNIT ON FUENGIROLA

Apart from the videos shown below, the final exhibition of a selection of projects done in the different subjects on the topic of Fuengirola is displayed at the hall of our school.
From the Statistics about the population of our town, to the description of different buildings and sites, the variety of international food available in our city and the study of the ecosystems of the area and the impact of the touristic activities on them. In this display there are also projects done by the Área Socio-Lingüística and Aula de Pedagogía Terapéutica, since the topic was also chosen as the axis of the CULTURAL WEEK.

WE ARE GOING TO HUNGARY!

As part of the ERASMUS+ project we are travelling with a small group of students to HUNGARY next month of MAY, from the 10th to the 17th, and the students selected for the experience of exchanging projects on science are:

EVA NÚÑEZ RYDMAN
PABLO LUQUE
SARA MENASSA
ALEJANDRO GISMERO

They will be staying with host families and will experience everyday life in a Hungarian school. The teachers will accompany them and join the other team of Hungarian teachers to study and discuss new methodologies for teaching science, so to make this field more appealing and attractive for young learners. Not all will be work, they will have a tight programme during their stay. We are looking forward to having this first contact with a Hungarian school. In the project there will also participate a Finnish school, which are taking some students too for the exchange. We will update information and surely we will publish news and photographs of the experience here.

HOW TO PURSUE YOUR DREAMS: SONIA THARANI

El Dpto. de Inglés ha organizado, dentro de su línea de trabajo de acercamiento de distintas trayectorias profesionales que resalten la importancia de los idiomas en la sociedad actual, una charla con Sonia Tharani quien, siendo de ascendiente indio ha nacido y sido educada en Málaga, pasando la etapa de primaria y secundaria en la capital malagueña para posteriormente marcharse a Reino Unido a realizar su sueño de dedicarse al mundo del Diseño de Moda, concretamente en Londres. Además de su formación académica inicial, ha seguido su pasión por el baile BOLLYWOOD y la ha convertido en su medio de vida, dedicándose en la actualidad al desarrollo de su empresa, tanto en España como en Reino Unido,  como Coreógrafa y Directora Artística, impartiendo talleres de danza en muchas provincias andaluzas y viajando con frecuencia con sus coreografías al Reino Unido.

The English Department has organised another talk about PROFESSIONAL CAREERS for our students of 3ºESO. We have had an excellent opportunity of meeting a young entrepeneur who, after studying her career as a FASHION DESIGNER in London, has tried a joint venture as Artistic Director of an Academy both in London and in Málaga. A passionate of Bollywood dancing, she is touring Andalusia to give workshops on this type of dancing connected to her background and family culture. Our students have described the talk and the experience as being an example, a "role model", "inspiring" and as a account of "never to give up on your dreams".  The main message given by Sonia was to encourage  young people "to step out of the confort area".
